Bassett hit Pewsey for 6

04 Sep 2011 - Pewsey Vale (A)

Wootton Bassett under 10 started their season with the same fixture as last season, with a trip to Pewsey Vale. Last season saw them suffer a 3-2 defeat, this year it was clear early on this would not be repeated.

In the first minute after some great build up play down the left by Nat O'Dwyer and James Young, Billy Richardson nearly opened his account but was denied by the post leaving Jack Rossi with the rebound to score his first league goal for the club on his debut. This was shortly followed by James Young again working well down the left beat his man and fired a great left footed shot past the Pewsey keeper.

Pewsey were not really a treat until the 18th minute when a corner had to be smartly headed onto his own post and to safety by Nat O'Dwyer. The resulting corner was defended well and Billy Richardson was able to break and was very unlucky not to score.

The second half saw Pewsey play much better football and fortunately for Bassett James Thomas was on hand to make a good solid save form a powerful shot, which could have opened Pewseys' account. This seemed to wake up Bassett who again took control of the game, playing good passing football, Jack Rossi broke away from the defence and slotted home. This was soon followed by some fantastic work down the right by Charlie Russ giving Billy Richardson the opportunity to score his first of the season from close range.

With the game really over as a contest Pewsey kept going and eventually got their reward from a corner in the 34th minute. But Bassett weren't finished yet and Jack Rossi went to complete his hat trick, thanks to some tireless work and tackling in the centre of mid field by Charlie O'Brien, Jack was able to head over the keeper into an empty net. Bassett continued to dominate the play and it was no surprise when Jack Rossi completed a magnificent performance and scored his 4th goal of the day. So with the score 6-1 in favour of Wootton Bassett the ref blew his whistle for the end of the match.
