Sunday 8th November 2009 - Highworth Town Juniors 'T' (H)

Of the three previous match reporters, none could be present for the match, so there is no official report as such – just some ramblings from the manager, and some feedback on each of the players.

Another superb team performance against a very good side. We had a new look defence today, and they did a great job. Some bone crunching tackles from Cade. Matt Cat played only his 2nd game back there, and looked a natural – moving forward when the chance arose, and tackling back when that was needed.. This is going to help us out as George fancies stretching his legs and trying out further up the pitch.

For the front three – a very tough game which involved a lot of running. Some great passing movements today. I counted a few great 1-2's – a particularly memorable one down the wing between Joe and Harrison. Cameron once again was on the top of his game with two well taken goals, and another belter from Harry. Joe was so unlucky not to add to that thanks to a fine save from the 'keeper, but he was always involved in and around the box.

MJ thankfully had a quiet time of it thanks to the efforts of his team mates, but when called on, he was up for it. This is very hard for a keeper – when there is not a lot to do, your focus can go, but not MJ's. Some great penalty saves too.

I'd like to say a huge thank you to Huw for reffing the match again – especially as Hadley was not available today.

MJ. As mentioned earlier – a tough game for Tigger. He remained focussed though, and made some fine stops. His diving is really coming on well, and he's still not had much actual goalkeeper training. You wouldn't think he'd never played there before this season.

Mat Cat. A superb performance today. Played at the back like he'd always played there. Strong in the tackle, and prepared to move up when he could. His best game for Basset so far in my opinion.

Cade. Came off the bench and got stuck in well. Some good clearances with both left and right feet. Some very strong tackles too. Good no-nonsense defeding.

Ryan. As always, never stopped. Forwards to support the attacks, back to help out the defence. A no nonsense performance once again, and incredible energy. Put in a good shift at right back at the start too.

Cameron. Two great goals. I said at the start that we should follow up shots (so I can claim the credit for that one), and he did just that. Followed up his own right footer, and scored with his left. Scored another great goal in the 2nd half. Always running, always prepared to run with the ball too. Some nice passing this week as well. A great captains performance. His confidence is sky-high at the moment.

Joe. Up against some large defenders today, but his confidence grew. Found a lot of good space today, and was always there to support the attack. Made some great runs too, and passed players. Good passing today too. Unlucky not to score near the end.

Harrison. Another great performance. Strong and swift. Made some good runs, and always looked dangerous. The Highworth manager commented on him, and couldn't believe it when I said that Harry had not played before this season. Another well taken goal today, and lots of effort. A great move in the 2nd half when he had his back to goal, the ball was passed to him, and he let it run past and turned his man.

Sorry there was no report as such, but well played everyone. We look forward to Archie, Hadley and George being available for the next match.
