Bassett win with a 2-5 Victory of Highworth In Difficult Conditions

Bassett travelled to Highworth today knowing it would be a difficult game after last weeks win against their rivals Ferndale, where the team was up for it last week it would be difficult in my eyes to try and gee them up for this game. With Bassett kicking off against the wind we knew it would be difficult to play against the home team and with the strong wind in the faces of the team so we asked the boys to play the ball on the floor otherwise the ball won't go too far and they will be under the cosh with the home team just coming straight back at them.

The team were struggling abit with their 1st touch and not able to get to grips with the conditions and sure enough we were punished, by not clearing the ball with the our head and it went through to their player who in turn shot a 18 yarder which crept under the body of a diving Kieran to make it 1 nil to Highworth. Bassett had a few chances at Highworth and the shots went over the bar and Callum came close with a header which just went wide.

Half time was approaching when Highworth had a corner and with the wind with the home team the corner came in, the defence and Keiran could not deal with it and the ball was slotted home to give the home team a 2 nil advantage. Within a few minutes Bassett started to play, put some good touches on the deck and the ball was played through to Jake who sprinted clear and shot, the keeper saved it and Jonathan followed it up and chipped the ball over everyone to make it 2-1 to Highworth going into half time.

Had a chat with them and baring in mind they played against the wind and going into half time only 2-1 down the ball was in there court and to get back playing how they should. With the wind in our favour we thought for the 2nd half we said we've got them but as soon as the game kicked off the wind died and that was that. Bassett kept pressing and most of the time it was one way traffic and 5 mins into the game the ball came out to Grant who took a touch and did a lovely lob over everyone and the bal dropped nicely into the back of the net making it 2-2. Over the course of the 2nd half Highworth probed a few times but with Bassett in more control now, they never looked back and soon Callum scored 1 of his 2 and then scored another shortly after that with a well taken long range effort just gliding above the floor giving the keeper no chance and with a few mins to go Danny wrapped it up to make the score Highworth 2 Bassett 5.

Overall

A slow start in the 1st half but came alive in the 2nd half with a good display and showed great effort and commitment from coming 2 goals behind to win 5-2.

Well done lads
