Bassett With A Stop Start Win Over Purton

After the 30 nil win over South Swindon the team was rightly feeling good about themselves, but with the season so far, play 1 miss a few it play 1 it was hard for our team to get the momentum going again.

The first half started and straight away the coaches knew it was not going to be that easy, with Purton being stubborn, and our finishing in the 1st half it was not going as it should, Purton was playing the up and over ball but our defence was quick to stub out any real threat but when they did manage to get through Kieran made a full diving save to push the ball round the goal. The game went back and forwards up and down the park but when our strikers had the chance to score they seemed to give the keeper the ball rather than punishing the keeper and by half time we could have been in the driving seat.

Chances came and went and with Jack putting in superb corners we kept missing the chances he gave us, but on one corner before half time along came another fantastic corner and this point Cole firmly planted his head on the ball and made it 1 nil to Bassett.

Half time came and as usual another chat with the lads to see where we can improve then we asked them what they could do better as 1 or a team.

2nd half started and the team that played in the 1st half was nowhere to be seen, they started to play football and with Harry going up and down the wing was making good progress into their defence all the time, Pav on the other wing had a good debut and he looks like he has a lot to offer us.

By this time now well into the 2nd half the team was settled and never looked like losing so it was a matter of time before the goals were coming.

With a cross coming from the wing, Callum scored a good headed goal and shortly afterwards Cole was pushed down in the penalty area and up stepped Nick to blast the shot right down the middle, Callum scoring again making it 4 nil with good foot work from Jake to set him up and the final goal came from Grant who was lurking in the 18 yard box, the ball came over, he timed his run well 1st shot saved and the rebound came out to him again and he kneed it over the line 5 nil game over.

If we start like that against some one who is better then Purton we could be struggling to start with, so we need to be straight on the ball from the start, like we always are in the 2nd half.

Never looked like losing but as the game went on played better and better, so another win lads, another clean sheet keep going WELL DONE.
