Bassett lose to league leaders

Today we met Cricklade, not only are they top of the league table, but they are also unbeaten. We led the team without Sarah our goalkeeper, so Charlotte stepped in her boots today, Emma and Felicity held the back as normal, Sophie Knight, Julia and Emily held the midfield, Rosie was striker and Sophie Jones was sub.

Cricklade never hesitated in attacking, which made our defence work their boots off today, Sophie K used her initiative well and held back and supported the defence at times, this obviously affected and made the midfield weak at times, but Emily and Julia kept it together as much as they could with the aid of Rosie falling back and helping out.

The first 10 minutes saw both teams passing the ball well, but Cricklade never held back and the first goal was scored with determination and power. The ball found the back of the net 3 more times in the next 10 minutes, so at half time the score was 4-0 to Cricklade. Emma was pulled off due to an injury, so Julia dropped back and Sophie Jones came on in midfield.

The girls kept their heads up and played the best game so far, we knew we were in for a hard game today, but we never had the attacking instinct the opposition had, we had plenty of chances, but there was no power behind the ball so their goalkeeper has a easy game, we defended the second half as well as we could, and we didn′t concede any more goals which the girls again had to work hard on.

Charlotte made some great saves today and held her position strong until the final whistle blew.

Man of the Match was awarded to 2 players today:

Charlotte for all her hard efforts in goal and Sophie Knight for keeping the midfield strong in the second half and giving 100% commitment to the team.
