Bassett lose narrowly to Trowbridge in the cup

Both sides had a strong start to the game with Trowbridge trying to score first which resulted in a good save from Sarah, following this a corner was served and once again Sarah was there to do what she does best with the aid of Rosie trying to block the opposition.

Ten minutes into the first half, the strong break appeared from Bassett with Sophie Knight (Striker) just shooting wide from the goalkeeper.

Strong midfield work from Emily put pressure on Trowbridge. The opposition forced a corner following a good saving tackle from Felicity.

The superb moment of the match must have been minutes away from the half time whistle when Sarah made a great save from a strong shot by Trowbridge, along with her good strong goal kicks, this was a game Sarah wasn′t going to forget in a hurry.

The girls were now getting tired, but they tried to hit back with Emily & Sophie K breaking through and forcing another corner. Trowbridge finished the first half strongly with Felicity making a good block and then Trowbridge then getting another corner.

The 2nd half started with one change to the squad with Charlotte replacing Rosie. Trowbridge continued strong and another attempt for goal was saved well by both Felicity & Sarah making good clearances. Sophie K makes another good break forcing a save from the Trowbridge goalkeeper.

Pressure during the 2nd half was applied by the opposition, but Bassett held on by good tackling by Julia and the midfield.

Trowbridge attack again, but foiled by another tackle by Felicity resulted in a corner to Trowbridge followed by a shot off target, 2 quick corners followed to Trowbridge, but the defenders and midfielders work together. The fresh legs of Rebecca came onto the pitch.

Three minutes to the end and everyone is convinced this game will go into extra time.

Bassett give away a corner, and with only Sarah and Felicity in their position, all other players were signalled to defend the goal area, Trowbridge release the ball from the corner spot quickly and in no time the ball was tucked away in the back of the net.

In the last remaining minutes of the game Bassett fought back more strongly than ever, pushing Sarah up front and putting Charlotte in goal, but despite forcing two corners the team they could not find an equaliser.

All the girls played stronger today than any other match, they put 100% into this cup game, they played with extra stamina and were unlucky not to come out winners!

No individual Man of the Match was awarded in this game, because ALL the girls worked and played hard as each other.
