Bassett earn draw with Swindon Town

I said it in the previous report when we played Chippenham, "for the game against Swindon we would have to keep the game flowing, play as a team and not as individuals, keep procession and structure, keep tackling" and I believe we did just that today, with the scoreline equal at 1 -1 right up to the final whistle ′ the girl′s did us proud!

We put up that good fight and it paid off, they worked well, at times under real pressure, at times Swindon fought harder and it looked like they were going to beat us and put another in the back of the net, we had to move the players a lot in this game to cover Emma coming off, but with felicity covering the back as usual, and Sarah worth her weight in gold, we managed to walk away proud and not walking away as the losers.

The game started with Emily as striker, Sophie K, Rosie and Julia as midfield, Emma and Felicity as defenders and Sarah as goalkeeper as usual. The team were strong in the first half, ensuring all the players had to be marked (especially their striker who was so eager to put the first goal away), we made some good attacks but were at times not strong enough to get past their line of defenders. The first half finished at 0-0 and with the midfield players starting to get tired, the fresh legs of Sophie Jones coming on 5 minutes before the end of the first half kept the game going.

The 2nd half started, and their continued threat never frightened us until we left the defence just slightly weak for them to make the advantage and score 5 minutes into the 2nd half, we knew what we did wrong and we made sure we played better and smarter from then on, as a result of this Emma was injured never to return to play further, with this Rosie dropped back into defence and Julia returned to her usual play in midfield.

Play had now in the midfield area slowed up and with some minor changes and ensuring the midfield was made to wake up, Rosie was now made striker, we dropped Emily back with the two Sophie′s in midfield, and Julia into defence, with good team effort from the midfield and before we could say "equaliser" Emily had made her way up the pitch, dibbling with ease (Swindon Town now dropping their defence) to place the ball in the corner of the net, this now had uplifted the entire team to at least play the remainder of the game and walk away with this 1-1 draw.

Man of the Match today was awarded to our goal keeper Sarah ′ she saved some cracking shots and showed why she is the 1st goal keeper for the Wiltshire League Representative Squad and I think without her today the score would have been greater than the 1-1 they all worked hard to get today.
