Striker James has to go in goal

Bassetts first away game of the season saw them travelling to Cirencester. The team took to the field with striker Tom James as stand in goalkeeper for the injured Joe Brennan. The first half was a tight affair, with neither team being able to break down the oppositions defence. Excellent performances from Dan Lowes and Jamie Riddett, in the midfield ensured that Bassett had the better of the play as the first half closed.

Play resumed in the second half with Tom James playing wide on the left and Gaz Jones playing in goal. The pattern of play remained the same, with Bassett dominating play in the midfield but unable to find the goal that their efforts deserved. Cirencester scored a breakaway goal half way through the period and followed it up shortly after with a goal from a free kick.

Bassett were rewarded ten minutes from time when Jamie Riddett headed home from a Tim Gleed free kick. The game ended 3-1 to Cirencester bur Bassett can take heart from a game in which they controlled the play for large periods of the match. An excellent team performance, particularly from the midfield and from captain Sean Leeke.
