Well deserved point

Paul Stonehouse earned Bassett a well deserved point with literally the last kick off the game in this fiercly competetive local derby at Rylands Way.

In the first half Supermarine played some excellent football and went into a first half lead after a mix up in the Bassett defence. Whilst Supermarine deserved to be in front at the break the Bassett front men had a number of opportunities to level the score but failed to convert the chances before half time.

Early in the second period Bassett stepped up a gear and Supermarine tried to defend their one goal lead. The Bassett team sensed a change in the game and after their poor first half performance, began to play football which troubled the visitors. A few changes during the second half and the encouraging support from the crowd seemed to spur the Bassett team on. Marshalled by McCurrock, Mills and Kelly remained strong in the heart of the Bassett defence and continued to make a number of timely tackles.

Wootton Bassett really deserved something from the game and were rewarded with a fine goal in the 89th Minute. Matty Bown picked the ball up in the Bassett half and struck a perfect cross ball ball that sat up for Paul Stonehouse to volley from 20yrds to give Ian Gill, the Supermarine keeper no chance.
