Royal Wootton Bassett Town's youth section enjoyed an excellent opening Sunday of the North Wilts League season, with seven victories recorded across ten matches.

There were some emphatic wins, cup progress and a penalty shootout success, with Bassett's teams scoring 41 goalsacross the ten fixtures.

Under-18s lead the way with Youth Cup wins

Both Under-18 sides enjoyed convincing victories in Wiltshire Youth Cup action.

The Under-18 Yellows produced an impressive 6–0 away win at Melksham Town Tornadoes, leading 2–0 at half-time before adding four more after the break.

There was an equally emphatic result for the Under-18 Blues, who beat Warminster Town UBlacks 7–0 at home. Bassett were already four goals to the good at half-time.

Under-14s both progress

It was also a perfect day for the two Under-14 teams in North Wilts League Cup competition.

The Under-14 Blues produced one of the day's biggest wins, travelling to Penhill United and returning with an impressive 8–1 victory. Cameron Greaney and Mikey Spencer were both in great form, scoring hat tricks.

Meanwhile the Under-14 Yellows edged a tight contest 1–0 against Purton Youth Cobras, securing their place in the next round.

Under-13s produce cup drama

The two Under-13 teams also came through their league cup ties.

The Under-13 Blues recorded a superb 10–2 away victory over Blunsdon Youth Amber, with Bassett already leading 4–1 at half-time.

There was considerably more tension in the other Under-13 tie, as the Under-13 Yellows drew 0–0 with Kingsdown Lions Blue. With nothing separating the teams, the tie went to penalties, where Bassett prevailed 3–2.

Mixed fortunes in league action

There were contrasting fortunes for the four Bassett teams involved in league fixtures.

The Under-15 Yellows had a day to remember, sweeping aside Croft Junior Blue 7–0.

The Under-12 Yellows battled hard but were beaten 4–2 at home by FC Abbey Meads Purple.

There was also a difficult morning for the Under-12 Blues, who went down 9–0 away to Melksham Town Spitfires, who led 5–0 at the interval.

The Under-16 Yellows then suffered a 4–0 home defeat to Highworth Town Juniors T, with the teams level at 0–0 at half-time before the visitors pulled away after the break.
