Royal Wootton Bassett Town manager Sam Collier's latest round of signings have seen him add further attacking intent and defensive versatility to his squad as the countdown to the 2021-22 Hellenic League Premier Division campaign continues.
Dave Bampton, Luke Cordery. Michael Miller and Tommy Ouldridge are the four latest player to have put pen to paper.
Bampton, Miller and Ouldridge all have limited levels of previous experience in a Bassett shirt too, though all will be entering their first full season with the club.
Ouldridge, in particular, is a player whose signature Collier is delighted to have secured.
A creative, skilful midfielder, the former Swindon Town youngster – who has also had spells at a higher level with Chippenham Town, Cirencester Town and Swindon Supermarine – appeared six times for Bassett last season.
Ouldridge scored at an impressive rate in that limited number of games, netting three goals including the opener in his side's 4-0 FA Vase triumph against Camelford. And it is hoped that he'll play a key role in increasing the number of goals Bassett get from their midfield.
Bampton, Cordery and Miller, meanwhile, add further strength in depth and will be battling for starting roles. Importantly, all are capable of playing in multiple roles.
Bampton, a tough-tackling player who also offers composure on the ball, featured fourteen times in 2020-21, playing in both defence and midfield, while scoring twice.
Miller featured five times for Bassett in 2019-20 while on loan from Thatcham Town. A defender who has also represented Winchester City, he is comfortable both at centre half and full back.
The final of the trio adding versatility to the squad is Cordery. He signs from Shrivenham where he has spent the past three and a half seasons, having previously been part of Fairford Town's 2016-17 Division One West title-winning side. While Collier will primarily intend to use him as a full back, Cordery also has the potential to contribute effectively in midfield.Last modified on Friday 16th July 2021 at 16:45.
