Weekend preview: Huge home finale as title race nears conclusion

Monday 4th May 2026

Royal Wootton Bassett Town play their penultimate game of the South West Regional Women's Football League Division One North season on Sunday - and their final fixture at home.

The stakes couldn't be any higher as Bassett entertain Bath City (Gerard Buxton Sports Ground, 2pm kick off).

Three points are more or less a must as Bassett seek to maintain top spot and take the title in what has been a thrilling, topsy-turvy race.

With fellow contenders Bitton and Corsham Town facing each other, one (or both) of those sides will see their chances take a dent. And given their superior goal difference, a Bassett win will all but guarantee that James Lally's team enter their final match at Paulton Rovers in control of their own destiny.

First though, Bassett have to get through a stern test against a Bath side who are always competitive. Indeed, Bassett edged a 1-0 win against the Romans in their earlier meeting this season, maintaining a streak that has see no game between the teams being decided by more than two goals.

Sunday's game is critical - so please do come along and show your support.

Admission is £4 for adults, £2 for concessions and free for RWBTFC youth members.

Prior to that Saturday sees the Under 18 Blues aim for North Wilts League Cup glory as they face Ramsbury in the final at the Corinium Stadium, Cirencester (9.30am kick off).

Do come along and show your support as the Under 18s seek to complete the double!
