Next up in our series looking at our teams achieving honours this season, we review the Under 16 Girls' unbelievably successful campaign, which saw them win the Wiltshire County Girls League and Cup double, as well as finish runners-up in the County Cup.

Wiltshire County Women's and Girls League Under 16s Champions 2016/17

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 16 Girls clinched the Wiltshire County Women's and Girls League and Cup double courtesy of a stunning final day victory in the 2016-17 season.

Needing to beat Westbury Youth Amazons by three clear goals away from home, braces from Sophie Roberts and Georgia Brown and a further goal from Gracie Bridger made sure of a 5-1 victory that overhauled their title rivals by virtue of having a better head-to-head record.

Despite goals from the prolific Roberts and Emma Sykes, Bassett had fallen to a 4-2 home defeat against Westbury on the opening day of the season.

But wins in their subsequent twelve games were enough to set up the decider against Westbury.

In a two-horse race, Bassett's lowest margin of victory against their other opponents was six goals.

They followed the loss in their opener with a 10-1 thrashing of Bath City Youth, in which Ellie Hayward's hat trick complemented Roberts' five-timer.

Roberts then scored four, while Lois Beer contributed three in a 10-2 win against Frome Town Youth Girls.

Roberts continued to bang them in, firing six in an 8-0 win against Melksham Town Youth before bagging another five – alongside Beer – in a 19-0 triumph against Derry Hill United Fusion.

In an 11-1 victory against Frome Town Ladies Youth, Roberts, Ellie Hayward and Georgia Brown all scored hat tricks.

Following on from that, Hayward struck four times as Swindon Spitfires were seen off 9-0 before a hat-trick in the 6-0 win against Frome Town Ladies.

In their penultimate game, Bassett defeated Bath City 12-2 to set up the title decider, which, dramatically, was to go their way.

Wiltshire Women and Girls League Cup Winners 2016/17

Having suffered defeat in the County Cup final, Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 16 Girls secured cup success as they lifted the 2016/17 Wiltshire Women and Girls' League Cup, completing the first part of an eventual league and cup double.

Bassett's quarter final against Melksham Town Youth saw them triumph 19-0. On target were Sophie Roberts (5), Millie Colford (4), Lois Beer (3), Ellie Hayward (3), Gracie Bridger (2) and Chloe Lawrence (2).

That set up a tricky semi-final tie against league champions – and County Cup final victors – Westbury Youth Amazons. But Bassett put in a dominant display to win 5-0. Roberts again played a starring role, scoring a hat trick, while Beer and Hollie Timbrell also struck,

Frome Town Ladies Youth awaited in the final and Sophie Roberts' first half hat trick fired them to a 3-1 victory.

Wiltshire County FA Under 16 Girls Cup Runners-up 2016/17

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 16 Girls reached two cup finals during a fantastic 2016-17 season.

However, they were unable to do a cup double after a second half comeback from Westbury Youth Amazons saw the south Wiltshire side prevail by the odd goal in three in the Wiltshire County Cup.

Bassett were awarded their first round tie against Derry Hill United Fusion, setting up a semi-final against FC Chippenham Youth.

They completely dominated that match, winning 15-0. Ellie Hayward and Sophie Roberts led the way with four goals each, while Chloe Lawrence and Lauren Usher chipped in with braces, and Lois Beer, Gracie Bridger and Emma Sykes all netted once.

The final was a closely fought affair. Bassett were able to take the lead before half time through Roberts, but Westbury ultimately struck twice after the restart to claim the silverware.
