Radstock Out of Luck

This was another disappointing display by Radstock, who again suffered a blow with an injury to their goalkeeper. At Devizes, the previous week, Len Wilkinson was off the field for a period after being injured and, on Saturday, his elder brother Terry, who deputised, was also off the field for 30 minutes during the opening half. When he returned he had to play on the right wing and centre forward Baber spent the greater part of the match in goal. This was a big blow to Radstock, who were also weakened by the absence of Wolff and Heron. Despite this, they had a fair share of the game and did well to keep their goal intact during the 30 minutes they were reduced to 10 men. Radstock started well by scoring the opening goal in the 15th minute and this was a well taken one by Leakey. The remainder of the half was a dour struggle with the defences proving equal to the efforts made by the forwards.

It was not until the second half that the visitors pierced the home defence and goals from Lawrence and Lehane gave them the lead after 65 minutes. The home centre half Tiller played a leading role in a partial Radstock recovery, which led to an equalising goal from Leakey shortly afterwards. The Wiltshire team finished stronger and as the depleted home team appeared to tire, their goal had a number of narrow escapes before Lawrence grabbed a late winner to give his side their fifth Wilts Premier League success of the season.
