Paulton Hit Top Form

Paulton produced some of their best form to win this Wilts Premier League game in a canter. From the third minute, when they scored their opening goal, they never looked back. Throughout, both sides played intelligent soccer, but it was only on a few brief occasions that the Wiltshire men really troubled the strong Paulton defenders. In the first minute, Wall went through to force Comer to make the first save of the match, the visitors appeared a lively side. This bright opening was, however, short-lived, as the young lively home forwards tore gaps in an unsteady defence.

Centre-forward Elson set the Rovers on the winning trail with a third minute goal and five minutes later, following a right-wing corner, Lewis scored a second. For a time it was all Paulton, with the opposing goalkeeper, Sansum, in the limelight. Biggs came near with one header and Elson forced the goalkeeper to make a brilliant one-handed save. Holcombe made a good debut for Paulton, but he had the misfortune to handle in the 19th minute and, from the penalty, Harkness reduced the arrears. This did not deter the Rovers who swept through to score their third in the next minute. Several of the forwards took part in the defence splitting movement, which Biggs finished with a good header. During one of the visitors' less frequent attacks, their most dangerous forward, left winger Wall, forced Comer to make the best save of the half.

Eight minutes after the re-start, the scoring was completed when Comer supplied the centre which enabled Lewis to score his second with a shot which went in off an upright.
