The Evening Advertiser, Monday 11th November 1946
Wiltshire clubs have no further interest in the FA Amateur Cup. Wootton Bassett Town had until Saturday when they presented themselves at the St. Austell (Cornwall), but they returned soundly beaten by nine clear goals.
The Cornishmen, unbeaten at home this season have thus put paid to Cup aspirations of three Wilts clubs this season – Pewsey, Devizes and now Wootton Bassett.
The Wiltshire Gazette, Thursday 14th November 1946
The last hope of Wiltshire to play St. Austell in the Amateur Cup, Wootton Bassett sustained the worst defeat inflicted upon a Wiltshire club by the Cornishmen. Notwithstanding, Wiltshire footballers will wish this sporting west country club the best of luck in the succeeding rounds of the competition.
