Royal Wootton Bassett Town's second friendly ahead of the start of the South West Regional Women's Football League Division One Eastern season ended in a 4-2 defeat away at Cirencester Town.
Both Bassett's goals came courtesy of Libby Davies in the opening period. And while Cirencester - who ply their trade in Gloucestershire County Women's League Division Two - eventually ran out winners, Bassett did all but score in an improved second half showing.
Overall, the fixture was a useful exercise for Bassett, with manager Adam Wood running the rule over 18 players in total, with multiple changes made at half time to ensure playing time was spread as equally as possible.
Bassett's preparations step up a gear next week with the visit of fellow tier six side Bitton in the Women's opening home friendly, the first of four tests against teams at tiers five and six.
