FC Chippenham comeback spells defeat for Under 18s

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 18s lost by the odd goal in a seven-goal thriller against title chasing FC Chippenham Youth in their penultimate fixture of the Wiltshire League Floodlit Division season.

Racing into a 3-1 lead, Bassett were in a strong position to deny Chippenham the title, with the visitors requiring a win to be able to remain within touching distance of Shrivenham.

But Chippenham fought back to ultimately claim the spoils.

Charlie Stammers slotted home to put Bassett ahead. After conceding an equaliser, Sebastian Smith's header and Tom Warren's bundled finish put the hosts two goals clear.

The visitors halved their deficit before the break though, before scoring a pair of goals in quick succession in the second half - the first a controversial penalty the second a stunning free kick - to move 4-3 in front.

Bassett's hopes of rescuing a point were dealt a blow when they were reduced to ten men following Adam Jones' straight red card, and ultimately they were beaten.
