2 ‒ 6 |
Royal Wootton Bassett Town fell to defeat in their opening South West Regional Women's Football League Premier Division fixture at home against Ilminster Town.
Despite leading at the break thanks to Lois Beer's opener, Bassett conceded six times in the second half as they were ultimately beaten 6-2 by an Ilminster side considered widely to be favourites in the division this season.
Beer's goal came midway through the opening period, though it arrived somewhat against the run of play.
It didn't take long for Ilminster to get back on level terms after the restart as Jodi Cornwall headed in from a Sian Chapman corner.
Cornwall soon headed her second, this time from Helen Bleazard's cross before completing her hat trick with a scrappy finish following a goalmouth scramble.
It was soon four as Harriet Kellie bundled the ball into the net from another Bleazard cross.
Bassett cut the deficit to two when Lisa Coe netted.
However there was more to come from the visitors.
Colette Martin made it five after good build up play from Kellie.
Abigail Carslake then completed the scoring with a late penalty following a handball.
