Royal Wootton Bassett Town Ladies recorded a 7-0 victory over Chipping Sodbury Town in the Women's FA Cup Preliminary round.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Ladies began their 2019-20 season with a convincing 7-0 victory against Chipping Sodbury Town in the Women's FA Cup preliminary round.

Recording only the second ever win in the competition in the club's history, Bassett romped to victory on the back of braces from Maddy Elliott, Hannah Gulliver and Hayley Huckin, with substitute Ellie Hayward completing the scoring.

Bassett had their South West Regional Women's Football League Northern Division visitors pinned deep in their own half from the first whistle.

But it took them half an hour to find a breakthrough, the hosts' finishing letting them down in the early stages. Meanwhile, the visiting 'keeper also pulled off a string of saves – most notably a double stop to deny Hayley Huckin's spectacular strike and Lauren Kayll's follow up - to keep the scores deadlocked.

However, Elliott eventually provided the inevitable first goal, tap in after Huckin beat her marker and squared to her strike partner.

Huckin then added a third seven minutes before the interval, slotting home from the penalty spot after a foul on Kayll.

Bassett kept their foot on the gas after the restart. On 50 minutes Huckin again raced through before selflessly passing to Elliott for her second of the match.

Gulliver soon made it 5-0. The visitors failed to clear their lines from a Laura Jefferies corner and the ball fell to the feet of Gulliver who sent a looping effort over the 'keeper and into the back of the net.

Huckin grabbed her team's sixth shortly after the hour mark, using her pace to beat the last defender before lifting a deft chip over the onrushing 'keeper.

Bassett stopper Abi Footner was brought into action with ten minutes to go, tipping around the post for a corner. But that was really the extent of her involvement in the game.

Instead, the action continued to be concentrated at the other end.

Substitute Sophie Smith shot agonisingly wide of the post with four minutes to go before Eloise Hayward completed the scoring, slotting home after latching onto Beth Kelloway's through ball.
