Wootton Bassett Blue v Chippenham Youth

Wootton Bassett U13 Blue 7 – 2 Chippenham Youth U13

The first round of the Wilts Cup saw us play our first competitive 11 a-side match against an unknown Chippenham team but the boys took to the pitch confident and started quickly trying to play their way out from the back at all times.

We created a few half chances without really testing the Chippenham keeper as any early shots were either straight at him or off target. Mike Gilder provided a cross early on which Dan put towards the goal and the keeper saved it for a corner.

From that corner Adam was left unmarked at the back post and the ball was delivered straight onto his foot and he side footed the ball into the net.

This stirred Chippenham into life and they pushed forward to create a half chance with a shot from just inside the box, but Dave got a hand to and he pushed it around the post. From their corner there was a scramble and they scored an equaliser as the header clear fell nicely for a Chippenham player and he ran onto the ball and rifled it home.

Nat, Billy, Freddie and Ben Patey were working tirelessly in the middle of the park denying Chippenham any possession and winning the ball back every time they looked to gain momentum and Nat scored a super goal when from a from in his first touch took him away from his opponent towards goal and with the ball bouncing he hit a shot over the keeper and into the far corner.

Ben Chin was unfortunate not to score when he got free but the keeper saved his goal bound effort. Half time and we were 2-1 up

The second half saw us camped in the Chippenham half for long periods with Jack Langcaster and Mike Gilder playing some great balls into the box to create chances but the Chippenham keeper and defence were managing to clear the danger most of the time. Eventually we got that bit of luck as Dan Ware latched onto a pass from Freddie and his first touch gave him a yard and he fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner to give us a 3-1 lead.

Ollie Case had a chance from a corner when he timed his run to meet the ball but his fine header went wide.

Dan Ware then scored two more in quick succession as Chippenham failed to clear their lines and he nipped in between the keeper and defender to get his second then he got on the end of a great pass from Billy to complete his hat-trick.

Adam got another goal from another corner which again was delivered to the back post where he and Dan both went for the header and the ball fell to Adams feet and he poked it home.

Ollie then also scored from a corner in a similar fashion as the ball came to him and this time he calmly drove the ball into the corner.

Chippenham got a goal back near the end when they broke down the right side and drilled a low cross into the six yard box and as Jake Kimber tried to cut the cross out it unfortunately went into the bottom corner. Overall today the boys played some great football and worked really hard – so well done to all of them, a great team performance!
