Edged out

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Reserves saw their three game home unbeaten run ended by Marlborough Town, who moved above Bassett in the Wiltshire League Premier Division table with a 2-1 victory.

In an entertaining game at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground, Royal Wootton Bassett Town Reserves suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat against Marlborough Town.

As with the last three home games, Bassett once again conceded the first goal, albeit unluckily this time as there appeared to be blatant handball in the build up which went unnoticed by the match officials.

However in what has seemed to be the norm in recent home games, Bassett pulled themselves level through Steve Groom, only to then concede another Marlborough goal just before the half ended.

Half time saw a switch by the management to 3-5-2. Yet the more attacking formation being deployed by the home side was on this occasion to no avail.

Things could have been different however when a final minute header from Groom was ruled out for an alleged push on the Marlborough keeper by Carl Shepherd. A draw would probably have been a fair result but it wasn't to be.

Shrewton United, the current leaders of the league, are the next visitors on Saturday in the penultimate game of the season.
