11 Jan 2015 - Highworth Town Juniors 'T' (H)

Sunday 11th January, Ballards Ash, Wootton Bassett (Home)

After the postponement of last weeks game this becomes the first game of n the New Year and Wootton Bassett Whites welcome Highworth Town Juniors T to Ballards Ash on a cold, but bright and sunny, morning.

Considering the extended break that the boys have enjoyed, having not played a competitive game since 7th December, Bassett start the game really well, playing some positive passing football. A move down the left really puts Highworth under pressure straight away and good passing and movement helps Bassett keep good possession.

James collects the ball in defence and bursts through the advancing Highworth players and keeps running before poking a ball through to Stan but Stan's shot is wide of the mark.

Highworth clear upfield and Bassett come again down the left with Sam. Sam delivers a great cross right into the danger area where Stan arrives and smashes the ball into the roof of the Highworth net to give the Whites an early lead.

Bassett 1 – 0

Bassett keep the pressure up and win a corner which Sam delivers into the box. Zach rises to meet but the ball is cleared out, but only as far as Stan who has a great strike at goal which requires a super save by the Highworth keeper to deny him.

Highworth attack at speed and win a corner of their own. The corner is whipped in and Bassett can't clear their lines. The ball goes out to the right of the Bassett area where an attacker makes a great strike, perfectly weighted over Dan's outstretched hands and into the back of the Bassett net.

Bassett 1 – 1

Shortly after Highworth win a soft free-kick near the edge of the Wootton Bassett box. The ball is delivered hard and directly at the Bassett goal and Dan manages to parry it away, but a Highworth player is quickest to the loose ball and follows up, passed Dan, to put Highworth ahead.

Bassett 1 – 2

James makes a great tackle in defence and comes away with the ball and passes to Charlie. Charlie looks up and makes a fantastic cross-field ball to Stan out on the right who plays down the line to Tyler up ahead. Tyler angles his run inside towards goal and gets a shot away but it is just over the bar.

Wootton Bassett keep the ball well now and enjoy a good period of possession. Charlie collects a ball in the centre and plays outside to Sam. Sam breaks a tackle before cutting the ball inside to Stan who coolly finishes over the keepers head to level the scores again.

Half Time - Wootton Bassett Whites 2 Highworth Town Juniors T 2

Highworth attack straight from the restart but Bassett clear and Charlie collects wide right. Charlie makes a great run down the line before cutting back to Stan but Stan's shot is saved.

Harry collects a Highworth clearance at halfway and passes through to Stan at the edge of the box. Stan holds the ball up really well while under pressure and then slots one through to Tyler arriving to his right. Tyler gets a shot away from a narrow angle but the ball goes right across the face of the goal.

Wootton Bassett engineer a fantastic passing move where almost everyone gets a touch of the ball. Short sharp passing leaves their opponents floundering . Highworth do eventually manage an interception but only as far as Ryan who makes a nice touch through to Kyle. Kyle takes a touch and fires in from the edge of the area to put Bassett in front.

Bassett 3 – 2

The Whites attack again after the restart and a neat pass from Brad finds Stan at the edge of the Highworth box. Stan's shot is saved but the ball is loose and Tyler is first there to slot in and extend the lead.

Bassett 4 – 2

Harry brings the ball out of defence and gives to Charlie in midfield. Charlie makes a great turn under pressure and lays off to Kyle who tries another from distance but this time the shot is saved.

Bassett come under some pressure for a spell and are forced to defend in numbers, each clearance coming back to them almost straight away. But the whites break out, Kyle and Tyler linking up nicely in midfield to make some time and space. The ball goes out to Charlie to the right and he cuts in to tryt a cheeky tap in with the keeper going the other way but the ball slips just past the post.
