01 Feb 2015 - Greenmeadow Youth (H)

Sunday 1st February, Ballards Ash, Wootton Bassett (Home)

On a bright and sunny, but very windy Sunday morning Wootton Bassett Whites this week welcome Greenmeadow Youth to Ballards Ash for their fourth home game in a row. Greenmeadow are currently riding high in second place in the league, but the Whites are coming in on the back of a six game winning streak.

Wootton Bassett play with the strong wind in the first half and the early exchanges are quite even, neither team able to get a grip on the game or make much progress into the opponents half or enjoy much good possession

Bassett win a free kick near half way and James takes it down the left to Sam. Sam wins a corner and takes it himself, delivering a great cross into the box where it is met by Kyle with a furious volley which goes over the bar.

Greenmeadow break with a long ball from the back, into the wind. Having been caught a few times already the attacker stays onside this time and beats the defence. The chasing defenders push him a little wide but he still gets off a curling lofted shot which goes high and wide from the Bassett goal.

Kyle wins the ball on the right and bursts down the wing. He works his way into the right side of the box, coming under pressure from Greenmeadow defenders, but manages to get a powerful shot in from a narrow angle. The keeper parries the shot into the path of Tyler but then recovers well to make a fine save to Tylers shot.

The Greenmeadow keeper clears the ball but only as far as Tyler who sends it straight back over the keepers head and into the back of the net to give the Whites the lead.

Bassett 1 – 0

Greenmeadow win a free-kick just in their own half and hit one through the Bassett defence. 2 Greenmeadow attackers break through, apparently well offside, but the ref allows play to continue. The ball goes right of the Bassett box and the attacker shoots over Dan at full stretch and the ball drops into the net to level the scores.

Bassett 1 – 1

Charlie, Kieran, and Stan work well together in the Greenmeadow half, making triangles and making their opponents chase the ball around. The ball goes for a corner which Sam delivers into the box but Greenmeadow are able to clear. They launch the ball upfield and flood through chasing after it and catch the Bassett defence on the turn. Dan is out quickly to try and intercept but the Greenmeadow attacker beats him to it and hits one over him as he advances. The ball is goalwards but is held up in the wind and Greenmeadow are first to react and tap in to take the lead.

Bassett 1 – 2

Bassett push back with some neat passing and win a corner. Once again Sam puts one into the box, this time to James on the penalty spot with a free header but the ball goes narrowly wide.

Greenmeadow break through at speed again but Ryan chases back and puts enough pressure on the attacker to be able to get a foot in and disrupt his run and Dan is able to collect.

Zach makes a great tackle at the back and lofts a great ball over to Tyler moving into the corner. Tyler cuts the ball back inside to Sam who arrives in support and Sam twists and turns at the edge of the box trying to shake the defender and make room for a shot which goes wide for a goal kick.

James collects the ball in space and, seeing the keeper is off his line, launches one from range back at the Greenmeadow goal. The keeper scrambles back and manages to intercept but fumbles the ball and it goes for a Bassett corner. The corner, however, is cleared and the ref blows for half time.

Half Time - Wootton Bassett Whites 1 Greenmeadow 1

Wootton Bassett are playing onto the wind in the 2nd half but are playing well early on and pressing Greenmeadow back. The ball comes out of defence from Ryan to Stan who holds up well under pressure. Stan plays off to Charlie who pushes up and delivers a clever chip over the Greenmeadow defensive line to Tyler breaking through who has a great finish over the keeper and into the net to level the scores.

Bassett 2 – 2

Greenmeadow enjoy a period of good possession and the Bassett defence is put under pressure. A ball into the box bounces around and Bassett can't clear it effectively and it comes out to a Greenmeadow player at the back of the box who volleys it back passed diving Dan to score.

Bassett 2 – 3

The Whites are struggling a it against the wind and are trying to play to feet on the floor. Greenmeadow intercept in midfield and break through. Dan is out quickly to intercept with his legs but the ball goes out to a Greenmeadow forward who's cross/shot is deflected up in the air and over Dan as he is back-peddling and into the Bassett net.

Bassett 2 – 4

Wootton Bassett build again from the back but the moves breaks down and Greenmeadow win the ball back. They advance down their right and the ball comes into the Bassett box where it is met at the near post by an attacker who slips it into the net for their fifth.

Bassett 2 – 5

Bassett win a free-kick. The ball is chipped over to Stan who is pushed wide but Kyle is over to help and collects right on the touchline. Kyle hits the gas and bursts passed the defender before squaring to Charlie who blasts it at the keeper. The keeper can't hold it and the ball is loose but goes for a goal-kick.

Good defensive work wins the ball back for Bassett and the boys work the ball out from the back. Charlie passes to Kyle who beats several tackles and gets into the edge of the Greenmeadow area but the keeper is out to intercept. However, Kyle has read the clearance well and collects the ball again and charges back toward goal, beating the chasing defenders and slotting the ball home.

Bassett 3 – 5

Charlie and Kyle combine down the left this time. The ball comes inside to Habib but the Greenmeadow defender gets a toe in and pokes the ball away. Harry is arriving at speed though and smashes a first-time shot goalwards but it goes over the Greenmeadow crossbar.

Bassett keep trying to push forward, against the wind. The ball is loose at halfway and a quick Greenmeadow player takes it and plays it down their right. The ball comes into the Bassett box to an unmarked attacker who gives Dan no chance and scores.
