Sunday 25th January, Ballards Ash, Wootton Bassett (Home)

This Sunday Wootton Bassett Whites are home for the third game in a row, this week welcoming Croft Junior FC Blue to Ballards Ash. Another deceptively cold morning but no sunshine today, just a grey overcast morning.

Once again Bassett start confidently, playing the passing game on the ground a trying to work a way through the Croft defence. Charlie, Kieran and Tyler linking up in midfield particularly well.

Croft break but Zach reacts and battles to win the ball back. Zach then goes on a little run, beating tackles, before delivering a great through ball to Stan racing down the right. Stan has the pace to beat the defender and cuts back in before laying off to Charlie at the edge of the box. Charlie hits a curling shot which the diving keeper manages to parry onto the post but it still trickles over the line to open the scoring for Bassett.

Bassett 1 – 0

The Whites keep up the pressure on their opponents with good passing play and Croft are forced to defend deep in their own half. Sam wins a corner and takes it himself, a great delivery into the heart of the Croft area where Zach rises above the defenders to nod home for the second of the morning.

Bassett 2 – 0

The pressure continues as Bassett push on again. Harry, half way inside the Croft half, takes a throw to Charlie. Charlie collects and shapes to shoot but instead slips the ball sideways to Stan In more space at the edge of the box . Stan makes a great chip shot which just clears the keepers outstretched hands and slips under the crossbar to make it 3 – 0.

Bassett 3 – 0

Bassett break again from a Croft attack, broken up by Kyle and moved out to Ryan. Ryan moves at pace down the left and delivers a nice ball for Tyler to chase further ahead. Tyler gets there first and cuts the ball back to Charlie a bit more central and Charlie tries to chip the keeper as he rushes out but the shot is just over the bar.

Croft break straight back from the resulting goal-kick and a quick attacker beats the Bassett defence and slots passed Dan to get 1 back for the visitors.

Bassett 3 – 1

Kyle, playing in defence for the first half today, takes a free-kick to Sam out wide on the left. Sam is intercepted by a Croft player but Charlie wins the ball back. Surrounded by Croft players Charlie manages to slip the ball out to Tyler breaking through and Tyler cleverly lifts the ball over the diving keeper to score.

Bassett 4 – 1

Stan is covering a lot of ground this morning. He collects the ball well in his own half and starts a run down the right wing before cutting a diagonal path across midfield to the left wing, beating Croft players all the way. When out left he passes on to Tyler who crosses to Charlie in the box but the Croft defenders are able to clear the ball before Charlie can get a shot away.

Croft break down the left and their pace gets them behind the Bassett defence again, 2 on 1 against Dan but Dan makes a great save with his feet to deny to attacker.

Half Time - Wootton Bassett Whites 4 Croft Junior FC Blue 1

Croft start the second half the better and are able to pass the ball around more confidently. Wootton Bassett are forced to defend as Croft pile on the pressure in an effort to get back into the game. Bassett break from the back and Harry goes on a run. He is pushed wide by the Croft defence but is still able to get a shot away but it is just wide.

Bassett win a corner and Jordan delivers from the left to Charlie whose great volley is over the bar. With Wootton Bassett pushed up for the corner Croft break straight away. Ryan chases back and does enough for the Croft attackers shot to go wide

The Whites are still under pressure but Harry wins the ball in defence and passes through to Kyle and Tyler both racing through. Kyle is faster than the defenders and finds himself 1 on 1 with the Croft keeper. The Croft keeper makes a fine save from Kyle's shot but the ball rebounds out into the box where Croft can't quite clear it before it falls to Kyle again who slams the ball home.

Bassett 5 – 1

Kieran does some good work down the right and links up with Charlie and win Bassett a corner. Harry takes this one, another great delivery and Zach is there again, above the Croft defenders, to head home.

Bassett 6 – 1

Ryan wins the ball in defence and makes a pass to Charlie. Charlie sees Tyler up ahead and makes a great defence splitting ball through to him to run onto. Tyler collects and calmly slots under the keeper for his second of the morning.

Bassett 7 – 1

Tom, on the right, intercepts a Croft attacker and neatly sidesteps a challenge before laying off to Tyler. Croft are able to clear but Ryan heads back in to the Croft area. Stan darts through to collect the free ball and passes across the box to Charlie in a bit of space. Charlie shoots but the Croft keeper makes a brilliant diving save but only as far as Tyler who is there to head home to complete his hat-trick.

Bassett 8 – 1

The Whites are still exerting good pressure on their opponents and are winning the ball high up the field. However, Croft press back and win a corner. A nice delivery gives their attacker a chance with his head but Harry is there to clear off of the line.
