Wootton Bassett Town Ladies produced the result of the afternoon in the Gloucestershire County Women's League as they defeated previously unbeaten league leaders Cheltenham Civil Service thanks to a solitary April Polden goal.

After drawing their first game of the season with Bitton, Cheltenham had been a roll, winning five straight while scoring 32 goals and conceding just five times.

But Bassett ensured their opponents' free scoring ways were curtailed.

Chances were few and far between in an evenly matches first half. And when a golden opportunity presented itself to the prolific Polden in the second period, she took it. The team, who had worked well for each other all afternoon, then held tight for the remainder of the afternoon to seal the three points.

Bassett now trail Cheltenham by just four points with a game in hand left to play.
