On a cool Saturday afternoon, Wootton Bassett travelled to Trowbridge Wanderers at Staverton. Wootton Bassett, once again, only able to field the minimum nine girls.
The game got off to a mixed start, with Wootton Bassett being slightly sluggish and the ball ricocheting from player to player. Although Wootton Bassett eventually had more possession, Trowbridge Wanderers had more shots at goal and seemed more cohesive in their play. 20 minutes into the game, Wootton Bassett had the ball in the net, but play had already been stopped for a penalty due to handball. Amy Mathews stood up but unfortunately the Trowbridge keeper was up to the challenge with a great save. Almost on half time the WBT defence was breached when a drop in concentration let a long range shot in at the near post.

The second half saw a change of goalie at both ends with Hannah Granger taking the position again for WBT. Shannon Furey took to the field as a fresher pair of legs. Katie Rea also swapped from centre forward to midfield with Amy Mathews taking on the central role alongside Rachel Buchanan. The changes seemed to energise WBT and the ball flowed more freely. The play stayed very much with Bassett and all the midfielders had pot shots at goal. Frustratingly none hitting the target. Then in the 63rd minute came a break away from Trowbridge Wanderers and a clinical finish gave them their second goal. WBT were not ready to give up though and continued to push forward, with the wind behind them, and in the 35th minute a handball on the edge of the box awarded them a free kick. Amy Mathews took control of the situation and sweetly struck an unstoppable 25 yard screamer into the top corner of the net. Even with five minutes of injury time played Wootton Bassett still tried to peg back the deficit, but, sadly, to no avail. The game ended and so did Wootton Bassett Towns' winning run but not without great fighting spirit.
