21 Nov 2010 - Tetbury Town (A)

Today was a day when everything clicked in to place. Everyone played their part, and we worked well as a team.

The forwards were passing well, shooting well, and prepared to take on players. The midfield had the right balance of attack and defend, and were passing very well, and the defenders and keeper kept alert to the Tetbury attack.

Though the score was 9-2, we must give credit to Tetbury. First, for their keeper who was outstanding and very brave, but also to the rest of their team who kept going to the final whistle. It's never nice to suffer a heavy defeat, but I'm pleased that our lads didn't rub it in at all, but kept it low-key.

You wouldn't have realised it (unless you caught a glimpse of Colin's (p)ale complexion), but Harry had a late night last night. Colin and Suzanne are under orders to keep him up late again next Saturday! Harry was on fire today, and was still looking to set up others even when he was on a hat-trick himself. He ended up with 4 very well taken goals – especially the lob, and was constantly chasing the ball whatever position he was playing in. Also on the score sheet today were George (2), Beefy (1), Matt Cat (1) and Luke. It was a complete team performance though and not just about the scorers. George was ghosting past players again and showing his usual calm nature, and Ryan was living up to the Rhino tag. Cade was fully committed today with his tackling, and was up for it despite his first half injury. MJ did a fine job with marshalling the defence, and was quick out of goal when needed.

What was especially pleasing (apart from the way we played), was the players acceptance to cover new positions to allow others a go further up field. It once again goes to show what a great bunch of lads we have at the club.

So we play Tetbury again next weekend. Despite the score, they have shown themselves to be a decent team with a great attitude, and we must continue to respect them. There are no teams in this division where we can afford to be complacent. Kick off next weekend is 14:00.
