Narrow win for Bassett away at Cirencester Town

This week we travelled to bottom of the table Cirencester B. We knew it was going to be tough because before the game Tony had had a conversation with their Manager and we found out they had the same players as last year and they finished third but have been very unlucky this season so far and certainly did not deserve to be bottom. We only had seven players available and told the boys before the game that they needed to conserve their energy whenever they could.

We started the game in our usual manor having early chances with good shots by Andrew with everyone winning a lot of possession. Cirencester defended very well and in most instances had nearly everybody behind the ball. We did find it difficult to break down their defence. The only way that Cirencester were going to score was on the break. They did break very well on a few occasions but some solid defending again by Aaron and Charlie Spettigue kept the attackers at bay. Kris and Jemil were receiving a lot of the ball and were looking to pass the ball around. Again Cirnecester were defending in numbers and the ball wasn't getting through.

Cirencester had a long range effort which was superbly saved by Jack. We continued to dominate the game but could not get that important goal. Jemil had a chance to score but decided to try and back heal the ball in which went straight to the goalie. Half time 0-0

With all the boys giving 100% with no substitutes on a large pitch it was always going to be difficult. Andrew and Charlie Skeates dominated the midfield and we were looking for a goal. We did have quite a few half chances by Kris and Jemil, but again the ball didn't quite run for us. Andrew had a strong long range shot well saved by the keeper. But half way through the second half we secured our well deserved goal. Good link up play by Andrew and Charlie Skeates ended in another out of the box shot which the keeper did well to parry, but Kris was in the perfect spot to slot the ball home at close range for his second goal in as many matches.

Cirencester pilled on the pressure and Jack was equal to a shot and made a great save low down on his near post. We were under pressure for a good 10 minutes and needed to keep our composure. Again some tremendous defending by Aaron and Charlie Spettigue kept out Cirencester. With Cirencester looking for the equaliser we had many breaks but couldn't get that all important second goal. Another break from Cirencester saw Jack come quickly off his line to clear the danger.

The whistle went and we won 1-0. Not they best game that the boys have played but at least we came away with a win, which moves us up to 4th in the league.

The Man Of The Match this week was awarded by the players and was given to Jack. Whilst Jack didn't have much to do today, what he did do he kept us in the game and he did well keeping a clean sheet. Well Done.
