All square against Malmesbury

Today saw us playing away to Malmesbury. We started the game with a positive attitude once again and strong play and passing was established very quickly from the whole team.

Malmesbury had little play of the ball and when they did get on the attack, Arron and Charlie Spettigue held a solid defence, not allowing the ball through.

Andrew and Charlie Skeates in midfield were in control, finding space and having numerous shots on goal, but the Malmesbury keeper was proving to be a very hard nut to crack! Jemil and Ollie were up front and linked well together. Again, some good passing keeping the pressure up.

Malmesbury came forward a couple of times, but Jacks distribution of the ball, something he had been practising in training, certainly paid off as he quickly sent the ball out to Bassett defenders before Malmesbury had time to get into position.

Half time saw a 0 : 0 scoreline, although Bassett had the majority of play and some very unlucky shots.

Second half saw Bassett step up the pressure and it wasn't long before Charlie Skeates put the ball in the net with a powerful shot! Unfortunately, Bassett seemed to loose concentration and Malmesbury quickly took up on this lapse and managed to equalise.

Realising our mistake, we quickly reformed, picked up the pace and got back into the game. Charlie Skeates found himself in a position for a long range shot which he delivered only for the ball to hit the cross-bar into the hands of the keeper ! Another opportunity found Kris on the ball and after a fantastic turn, he just turned it out wide. Andrew found space and also took a shot which was going wide, Kris managed to intercept the ball and took a shot – the woodwork beating us again!!

Final whistle went and we came away thinking that we thoroughly deserved to win, but at the end of the day, 1 point is better than none.

The team play was excellent, confident passing and good communication, but the ball was just not finding the net as much as it should have.

Man of the Match was very hard to decide, so we this week we asked the boys to choose. Andrew and Charlie Skeates were given the same amount of votes, so share the award this week.
