No positive result for Purton - even with Bassett down to 10

Purton were without a league fixture last Saturday but, on the Tuesday prior, they entertained near-neighbours Wootton Bassett Town in their last home league game of the season, reports Alan Eastwood.

The game ended 0-0, but Purton had chances to win the match for, when Bassett were reduced to 10 men 10 minutes before half-time after Dave Guthrie was sent off, it seemed the game was there for the taking.

Bassett, however, had other ideas and battled away and did everything to break up Purton's play with sometimes strong-arm tactics and the use of the big boot all over the park.

In the first half, Mark Gardner had two great chances and in the second Richard Watkins and James Griffin both should have scored.

Bassett keeper Stevens was also in outstanding form, most dominant of his area, and in the end Purton's big crowd had to settle for a stalemate end result.
