Direct Methods Paid

The Wiltshire Gazette, Thursday 2nd October 1947

By using more direct methods, Wootton Bassett deserved their victory at Bradford, where Spencer's made the mistake of keeping the ball too close.

Play was fast and interesting, and in the opening stages Hill (Wootton Bassett) saved well from Gill and Hunt, while Hanny had to save from Wright and Pearce.

The second half was hotly contested. Hunt put Spencers in front after ten minutes, but Wright equalised and Lane gave Wootton Bassett the lead.

Lawrence and Sadd were prominent for Spencers; Brown, H. Wright and Lane for Wootton Bassett.
