3 goals in 4 minutes see off Bassett

Bassett had another tricky away game, this time against in form Hungerford Town, who last week beat top of the table 4-2.

Starting for Bassett was Benita Gill in Goal, Poppy Henderson and Last weeks player of the match Freya King in defence. Lola Ashworth, Olivia Deverall and Holly Wannell in midfield with Daisy Bundy in attack.

With an open end to end start to the game, Bassett were unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions, with wayward finishing not living up to the good play that had gone before. At the other end Goalkeeper Benita Gill was called into action saving well from close range, to keep the scores level.

Top goal scorer Daisy Bundy scored for the twelfth time this season, when she some how fired past the Hungerford goalkeeper from what looked like an impossible angle, to put Bassett in front. The lead was short lived as Hungerford replied inside a minute.

Bassett sent on subs Robyn Spencer, Leah Jefferies and captain for the game Lillian Newbury, to freshen up things at the start of the second quarter, a quarter that again saw Bassett dominate possession without being able to add to Daisy's early strike.

A minute before half time, Hungerford captain danced passed a couple of challenges as she edged closer to the Bassett box, with Bassett's defence trying to close the space, she slotted home, to give Hungerford a half time lead.

Hungerford then started the second half on fire, and a blast of 3 more goals in four minutes either side of the third quarter, took the game away from Bassett. with Hungerford captain adding two and setting up the other, showing her quality, that sees her playing for Wiltshire.

To Bassett's credit the girls never gave in, and continued to battle for every ball, with hard working Holly Wannell leading by example in midfield. Bassett did manage to stem the flow of goals at one end, without being able to create much going forward.

With one quarter left and Bassett losing 5-1, Bassett changed goalkeeper Benita Gill for Holly Wannell, giving Benita the chance to get some time outfield. A change that saw Holly pull of a wonder save tipping a fierce shot onto the crossbar before turning round and catching the rebound.

Hungerford added a sixth goal with seven minutes left in the game, again set up by the Hungerford captain. Bassett still not willing to give in, finished the scoring as Robyn Spencer, ran clear from a Freya King clearance to slot pass the on rushing Hungerford goalkeeper, with her forth goal for the club.

Hungerford ran out winners 6-2, with player of the match for Bassett, going to Holly Wannell for her never give in attitude.

Going into the Christmas break, Bassett sit ninth in the league with 3 wins and a draw from there first 8 games.
