Ladies are Union busters

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Ladies moved up to second in Gloucestershire County Women's League Division One with a comfortable 3-0 victory against Bristol Ladies Union.

Laura Gammon's sublime curling free kick put Bassett ahead, before she grabbed the second after being set up by an excellent run and pass from impressive young debutant Chloe Lawrence, who was also celebrating her sixteenth birthday.

A second half strike from Joni Warner then settled the outcome.

Becky Gammon's side are now six games unbeaten in the league, with five wins coming during that fantastic run. Their streak has helped put them in pole position for second spot in the division too.

There is just a single point between Bassett and Longlevens, who sit fifth. However they, along with third place Almondsbury UWE and fourth place Forest of Dean have all played at least two games more.

Top spot is likely out of the question as St Nicholas Reserves are 14 points clear, although Bassett have three games in hand over them.

Nevertheless they have a fantastic platform to build a solid advantage on the sides immediately below them as they continue to search for a finish in a promotion place.
