Wootton Bassett Town Ladies boosted their title hopes with a fine 5-2 victory in their home clash against Mitcheldean Ladies, who led Division Two of the Gloucestershire County Womens League at the beginning of the weekend.

Braces from April Polden and Megan Tidy and a further strike from Sarah Moore carried Bassett home on a fine afternoon at Rylands Way.

The victory avenged for a 2-0 defeat at the hands of their Gloucesershire opponents on the opening day of the season.

In a tight, five horse race at the top of the division, Bassett now sit just three points behind their opponents with a game in hand to spare. However, Quedgeley Wanderers still look to be in the best position for a title tilt. Nevertheless, there is still plenty to play for and Bassett will be looking to increase the pressure more when they host AEK Boco Reserves - currently fifth in the table - at Rylands Way next Sunday.
