Bassett off to a flying start

Wootton Bassett got their season off to a flying start with a good performance against Westlea at Saltway Primary School. From the starting whistle Bassett pushed forward as a unit and good passing saw them take an early 3-0 lead with goals from George Drewitt, Brett Embling and Harry Fitzwilliams. Westlea then started to press forward and pulled back two goals which Bassett could and should have defended better. This prompted the visitors to up their game and at half time more good play saw the score 5-3 to Bassett.

The second half saw more Wootton Bassett pressure, this time supported by more resolute defending. As the game went on every Bassett player tried to get on the score sheet which resulted in the front players attempting shots when the better option was to pass. Further goals followed with the final score reaching 9-3 to Wootton Bassett whose goal scorers were George Drewitt 3, Brett Embling 2, Chris Edwards 2, Harry Fitzwilliams and an own goal. Overall this was a great team effort with Chris Smith in goal coming up with terrific saves when needed.
