Bassett beaten by Robins in rearranged game

This was the re-arranged fixture from earlier in the season, which was abandoned due to heavy rain and a very muddy pitch. Wootton Bassett started the game playing up the hill in determined fashion. They passed the ball, tackled and defended their goal with determination and were rewarded midway through the first half with a fine goal created from a long ball played up to Harry Fitzwilliams which he himself knocked forward, chased and struck into the oppositions net. This lead was maintained up to half time.

Now playing down the slope Bassett should have gone on to score more goals and win the match. This was not accounting for more determined play from Robins and some refereeing decisions which favoured the physical approach adopted by Robins rather than the passing and moving game which Bassett tried to employ. Robins drew level shortly after the break and scored 3 more goals each at regular intervals through the second half, one from a very harsh penalty decision. Nonetheless Bassett kept their heads up and with more luck in front of goal would have at least gained a draw. This was by no means a bad performance.
