Saturday 14 November saw Bassett at home to Worcester College Old Boys, where earlier in the season Bassett had a 4-1 win with a great performance. But as so often in football it proved not to be the case this time as they turned in an overall lacklustre performance. Passing was wayward and imagination shown in recent games was lacking. It was goalless at half time with only one decent chance carved out when Richard Merchant put his shot over the bar from 8 yards, and Neil Twine in the Bassett goal safely dealing with a couple of the visitors half chances.
The second half started slightly brighter, with Bassett more determined and gaining control, but the determination wasn't to last and passing became wayward again and far too long in content. Ironically though it was from a long ball from Harper at the back with 20 minutes remaining that Bassett scored the crucial goal, when Newton was able to get in between keeper and defender to prod the ball home. The Old Boys tried to respond, and Twine needed to be alert on a couple of occasions, but otherwise a disappointing game passed the rest of its time without incident. Bassett have on a number of occasions played well only to come away with nothing, so perhaps Saturday proved to be the other side of the coin.
