Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 14 Girls had their penultimate match of the North Wilts League Division One season against Durrington Seahawks on Saturday, and they looked to claim three more crucial points and remain top of the table.
The game was held on a tough pitch with a slight hill, but this didn't stop Bassett from playing some great football.
They were rewarded with an early goal five minutes in through Mia Hughes, who finished calmly at the end of a corner to put the Blues one up.
The girls didn't stop there and secured another goal not long after. Sienna Matthews poked a good ball through to Eryn Turnball who finished past the keeper to make the score 2-0.
Durrington were still looking dangerous and rattled the crossbar twice. However, they failed to convert a few clear chances whereas Bassett had their shooting boots on.
The Blues went on to score another two goals in quick succession.
The third came from Mia, who claimed her brace by heading home an Ava Hall corner.
Ava herself scored the fourth. Sienna delivered a great ball to the back post which Ava pounced on. Her initial shot was saved but she fired home the rebound to put Bassett in the lead by four goals.
At half time the Blues were 4-0 up and comfortably dominating possession.
The second half continued in a similar fashion, with the Blues looking calm and composed on the ball.
The girls managed to keep a clean sheet and were defensively solid.
Mia had a few more good chances to put the ball away, but unfortunately her shots were fired just wide.
However, she still had a big influence on the game, setting up Eryn for her second goal of the game. Mia slotted a lovely ball through to Eryn, who poked the ball into the bottom corner of the goal and sealed off a 5-0 win for Bassett.
Player of the match went to Eryn for a strong performance up front, and to Maya, who worked incredibly hard in defence.
