Torrential rain fell throughout the game and it was a skidding ball that enabled Watts to put Clandown in the lead after only three minutes. It was a forwards' day, with defenders easily beaten. After 25 minutes a rather harsh penalty was given against Clandown and Harkness converted the spot kick. Ten minutes later Gardner the Bassett inside-left, veered to the left wing to collect a pass, centred and the ball floated over all the defenders and goalkeeper Webber to drop inside the net.
In the second half Sansum in the Bassett goal, cut out some good moves and just robbed the Clandown forwards with daring dives. Clandown's hopes dimmed in the 60th minute when Robinson sent over a perfect centre for Lehane to head in and shortly after Lehane scored number four.
