Rangers edge out Under 18s

Last season's top two sides Kintbury Rangers and Royal Wootton Bassett Town met at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground - and it was reigning champions Kintbury who triumphed 2-0.

Kintbury had much the better of things in the first half, hitting the crossbar on three occasions but there were to be no goals.

Bassett had grown into the game as the half progressed, but Kintbury had created numerous decent chances. However they had been unable to put one away.

It was a similar story at the start of the second half, but Kintbury eventually did find that elusive goal. Bassett gave possession away in midfield, and the ball found its way to Joseph Sheridan who fired in for 1-0.

Kintbury then doubled their lead when a ball over the top found its way to Bassett keeper Leyton Stepp, but his attempted clearance struck Sheridan and rebounded in front of him giving him an open goal and the striker made no mistake to put his side two goals in front.

Kintbury continued to press for further goals but some wayward finishing and a couple of good saves from Stepp meant that there was to be no further scoring as the visitors ran out 2-0 winners to become one of four teams on six points in joint third spot.
