Sunday side into Knockout Cup final

Royal Wootton Bassett Town's Sunday team booked a place in the final of the Swindon Sunday League Knockout Cup with a hard-fought 3-0 victory against AFC Mannington.

Bassett had beaten their opponents 9-0 in the league just a week before, but the swirling winds made things exceptionally difficult.

Forced to be patient, Bassett remained solid defensively and ensured passage through to the final thanks to goals from Aaron Dainton, Aaron Stevens and Lewis Petrie.

Playing in only their second season, reaching the final is an outstanding achievement for a team comprising a range of players who have featured for either the club's youth or senior teams (sometimes both). Division Two champions in 2017-18, they are also fighting for the Division One title meaning a double is potentially on the cards.

That will be tough to achieve, though it is something the team are more than capable of.

In the cup final, Bassett will take on fellow title challengers FC Walcot, who defeated Greyhound by the odd goal in three in their semi final. Bassett triumphed 7-1 in the initial league meeting between the teams this season (Walcot's only defeat so far)
