Girls fly past Frome to lift League Cup

A dominant first half performance ensured Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 16 Girls lifted the Wiltshire Women's and Girls League Cup as they defeated Frome Town Ladies Youth 3-1.

Sophie Roberts was the hero for Bassett, scoring a hat-trick to put her side into an unassailable lead at the break.

Her first came midway through the opening period when she steered in a well weighted Lauren Usher cross with a coolly taken side-foot volley from close range.

Georgia Brown's cross-field ball then picked Roberts out on the edge of the area, and the prolific forward expertly controlled the ball before drilling low beyond the Frome 'keeper.

It was quickly 3-0 as Usher's clipped ball was flicked on by Lois Beer and Roberts did the rest, cutting between Frome's centre halves and firing in another low shot past the onrushing 'keeper.

Bassett had numerous chances to extend their lead further in the second period, however they couldn't take advantage of these.

While Frome managed to get a goal back with a well taken chipped effort, Bassett were comfortably in front to seal the silverware - a fantastic achievement for a side in their first season!
