Wootton Bassett Town under 18s secured runners-up spot in the Wiltshire County Youth Floodlit League North Division with a 3-1 victory against bottom of th table Corsham Town.

Needing three points to jump ahead of New College on goal difference, Bassett duly delivered. Ieuan Walton led the way with a brace, while Jamie Tuck ensured the margin of victory would be more than just a solitary goal.

The match brought Danny Groom's extremely successful spell in charge of the Floodlit League team to an end. In his first season in charge, the young team of his - consisting largely of under 16s - managed a third place finish. Then last year the team stormed to the title and made the final of the Wiltshire Youth Cup.

This year's campaign has arguably been the trickiest though. Constant postponements meant they could not gather the necessary momentum to mount a serious title challenge. After a pair of comfortable wins to begin the season, the team earned just one point from their next four matches. Bassett therefore were in a position where they had to catch up, and it took four wins from the final six matches to propel the team into second.

Despite not repeating as title winners, finishing runners-up is an achievement to be proud of. And the management and players deserve to be congratulated on another excellent season!
