Nervous start to the season

Wootton Bassett started nervously as they looked to settle back to playing 7 a-side football and coming to grips with playing on smaller pitches. Bassett had the better off the first ten minutes but failed to score during this period with many shooting chances being snatched at and some good saves by the home keeper.

The first goal of the game went to Trowbridge on 11mins a clearance from defence was misjudge this let in a Trowbridge forward who toe poked the ball past a stranded Sam Wood. The goal seemed to give Trowbrige a lift with most attacks being very direct .A Bassett equaliser came also from a more direct approach on 19mins a long throw on the left side by Rebecca Packwood was headed towards goal by Charlotte Burke the powerful header was scrambled away by the home keeper only as far as Alyson Lyons who struck a sweet half volley into the top corner of the net.

The score stayed level for only 2 minutes and again it was Trowbridge who scored. This goal coming from a powerful strike which Samantha Wood could only beat away. A Trowbridge forward reacted quickest to the loose ball to calmly slotting home from a tight angle. The rest of the half was end to end but with no more clear cut chances for either side at half time the score was still 2:1 in favour of the home side.

The second half started with Bassett pressing forward in search of an equaliser and Trowbridge happy to pack there defence. An equaliser came eight minutes into the half a good passing move involving four players created an overlap for Megan James to be clean through on goal and another good finish to level the scores once again.
