Bassett beaten by Robins

Robins started by earning an early corner. This was well defended by Bassett, who broke out from defence with Max, who knocked a lovely ball past the Robins defence and ran in behind into space. He ran on and shot just wide of the far post. Martin picked up the play and played it long into Ollie who got the ball back to Max in front of goal but the keeper got to it. Then Ollie ran into the corner and put in a good cross for Max as Bassett dominated the play. Robins chipped in with a long shot from midfield but it was well held by Ben.

Reuben was battling in midfield and just when Robins were starting to find some space in the middle, he came in with a crunching but fair tackle. Robins were tricky opponents and they worked the ball into the penalty area where it was pounced on by Ben. Martin found Max with his pass and Max managed to stretch the Robins defence and earn a corner. Ollie too was putting on pressure and earned a throw in an advanced position.

With over 15 minutes gone, the match was still mostly in Bassett's favour when a Robins player went down on the edge of the box. Although the point of contact appeared to be outside the box, the ref gave in to pleas for a penalty from the Robins players. The ball was duly despatched for Robins first goal and Bassett were left feeling aggrieved.

Bassett earned a corner and Reuben whipped it in and the ball smacked back off the post. At the other end, Robins won a corner and managed to get a shot in that Ben got to but could not hold and although the ball was cleared, a goal was given. Two nil to the Robins and the Bassett team were feeling somewhat deflated. In defence Martin made a vital block and the Robins players claimed handball and picked up the ball. . On this occasion, Bassett were given the free kick.

Halftime came with need for something new from Bassett. Alex came on for Ollie and was soon involved. Alex made a defensive header in his own box and together with some good battling from Mitchell, the ball was cleared. Bassett pressed with Tico running down the wing from defence. Topps came on for Martin on the left of defence. Mitchell was again called upon to do a covering tackle as Robins attacked down the flanks.

From a long goal kick from Ben, Alex managed to turn and get the better of his marker and run into the penalty box where the keeper managed to smoother the ball.

Again Bassett's scoring chances were not taken but then Robins put a cross into the box which Ben could not hold and the ball was shepherded over the line by a Robins player. That made the score 3 nil. Shortly afterwards, a bouncing ball was put in by Robins from the flank and a despite Bassett having numbers in the box, a Robins player reacted quickest and made it 4 nil.

Robins pressed but the efforts of Tico, Topps, Reuben and particularly Mitchell kept them at bay. One Robins player lost his rag and kicked out at Tico and Mitchell and could have been move severely dealt with by the referee. Ollie came on for an injured Tico and managed to earn a Bassett corner but the Robins attacks kept coming and Topps did some good holding off against a strong Robins forward and Mitchell was called upon to put in a good block. From a good early start, Bassett failed to take their chances and were unlucky as some of the decisions went against them and then there was no way back.
