Fair Play Award & Yeardley goal secures first point

Before the match Bassett were presented with the prize for the Wiltshire Fair Play Award - a full England strip. They then chose to wear this and were sufficiently inspired to get their first point of the season. With several players back from injury, this was a much better performance by Bassett - building well on the improvement last week. The home team had the best of the first half and were unlucky to come in level. In fact there were claims that a goal had been scored but the referee did not see the ball cross the line. 0-0 at half time has in the past meant 0-5 by full time for this team, but a new resolve saw Bassett take control in the game and it was appropriate that the goal when it did came from the captain, Stephen Yeardley, driving home a free kick from the edge of the box. When was the last time we saw a captain of a team wearing England shirts do that? The domination continued until the 88th minute when Corsham grabbed an equaliser following a goal mouth scramble. So only a draw - but the improvement continues and Bassett are now off the bottom.
