Chippenham Town go back top

Chippenham Town under 18s reclaimed top spot in the Wiltshire County FA Youth Floodlight league with victory at Wootton Bassett on Monday night. The visitors turned in a lacklustre performance in the first half but they emerged for the second half in determined fashion and were in front within 30 seconds of the restart. Ryan Bush's ball found Neil Grant, whose shot hit both a defender and the goalkeeper before falling nicely for top scorer Jason Walsh. The visitors went two in front on the hour when Tommy Laver's pass from the right wing set up Mark Gerrish to thump a shot into the top corner of the net from the edge of the area. Daniel Lardner made sure of the points 15 minutes from time. Bluebirds youth team boss Colin Bush said: "The boys had a major rocket at half time. I'm pleased with the 3-0 win in the end because I'd have taken 1-0 at half time. "It was a spirited performance from Wootton Bassett, but we had a lot of pressure. We showed some urgency in the second half and it paid off." Bush believes the title race will go to the final day following Westbury's withdrawal from the league.
