Bassett stop Highworth going back top

On Wednesday night we travelled to Highworth Town who required victory to take them back to the top of Division 1. The first half saw Bassett playing into the gale force wind which made control very difficult. In the early stages Highworth made the more positive start but with little threat to Matt Robinson's goal. It was Bassett who made the better chances in a first half played at a hectic pace.

The second half greeted the players with driving rain and almost storm force wind. Bassett with the wind at their backs made the all important breakthrough five minutes into the half. At least three Bassett players had shots charged down before the ball broke to Barry Giles 25 yards out. Barry picked his spot and struck a venomous shot past the Highworth keeper. Highworth pressed for the equaliser but the Bassett defence and Matt Robinson with some superb handling held on.

neil Timbrell once again showed his versatility with an outstanding performance at centre half. To pick anyone player would be unfair as all the players played their part in an excellent team performance to complete the double over the side with aspirations of Premier Division football next season.
