Draws for the 2025-26 Adobe Women's FA Cup preliminary and first qualifying rounds have now been released. And Royal Wootton Bassett Town will start their journey in this year's competition with an away trip to brand new opponents.
In each of the last three seasons, Bassett have suffered agonising exits at the third - and final - qualifying round stage with a pair of defeats away against Torquay United and a narrow home loss against AFC Stoneham sandwiched in between.
New manager James Lally will now be looking to take his side a step further and write club history by reaching the first round proper.
Getting that far would mark a significant achievement - not least given it would require Bassett to successfully navigate three qualifying rounds.
But Lally has a strong prior record in the competition, guiding Swindon Town to the second round in 2021-22. And he'll be hoping to use that experience to guide his new team on a memorable run in the competition.
Granted a bye from the preliminary round, Bassett will enter the 2025-26 edition of the Women's FA Cup at the first qualifying round stage.
There, Bassett will venture to Surrey to take on Frimley Green on Sunday 7 September (2pm kick off).
Frimley Green are a brand new side, though, like Bassett, they ply their trade at step six of the Women's Football Pyramid, playing in the London & South East Regional Women's Football League Division One South.
Although a new club, they are likely to feature players with experience of tier six football and the Women's FA Cup as their management team have moved across from former tier six side Woking.
